 "Race for Education"

On behalf of the Race Committee, we want to thank all of our parents who helped make our "Race for Education"  on Thursday such a success! We are  grateful for all the label names you sent in, your contributions, and for those of you who helped out during our Race Day activities.  Thank you so much!!

We are excited to report that we have raised over $28,000 so far from the contributions of our sponsors.  However, please note: it is still not late to send in a donation for our "Race for Education."  We are accepting donations up through Friday, May 22, 2009.  We are excited about all of the benefits our children at St. Benedict School will receive because of the response of our generous donors!

We would like to extend special thanks to the "Race for Education" "race co-ordinators" Mary Herbick and Michele Donate. We would also like to thank: Betsy Slezak, Laura Kalna, Lori Brisko, Chris Johnson, Katie Berkebile, Dawn Diamond and Denise Sedlemeyer for their help on the day of the race.  Their efforts helped to make this race a great success.

The St. Benedict, Adopt-a-Classroom Project sponsored by the Parent/Alumni Association is asking for your help.

Our goal is to update/modernize the entire school. This
includes but is not limited to lighting, flooring, ceilings,                reconditioning desk, new computers, LCD projectors, electrical enhancements, shelving organizers for classrooms, and heating and air conditioning.

To adopt-a-classroom we are requesting a donation in the
amount of $4000. This will allow us to complete the work listed above. Our goal is to raise $100,000 and renovate 25 classrooms and the hallways.

Additional funds raised will be used for renovations/ enhancements of the restrooms, library, music room, computer room and gymnasium. We would also like to replace the windows on the 4th, 5th and 6th grade wing with more energy efficient ones. Finally, we would like to dress up the entrance making it more user friendly for students entering the school.

Donations may be sent to St. Benedict School to the
attention of the "Adopt-a-classroom Program". Please mark
to the attention of Bob McGowan. I may be reached at: (814)  242-2089.

The Philosophy of St. Benedict School

Let it be known to all who enter here that Christ is the reason for this school, the unseen but ever-present Teacher in its classes, the Model of its faculty, the Inspiration of its students.

Our family of Saint Benedict nurtures faith development by daily community and personal prayer and participation in liturgy. The religious atmosphere of our school encourages the application of our Catholic Christian faith in everyday situations by responding to the person of Christ present in others.

Our academic program is presented from Pre-school through Eighth Grade in a positive and supportive climate to ensure that all students with their various learning styles progress toward higher levels of thinking.

Our vision to instill Christian values encompasses the physical, intellectual, social, and spiritual development of each student. We strive to foster a positive self-awareness which leads to the accountability of responsible choices. Our recognition of diversity within the school community creates an atmosphere of respect for self and for others.

Our professional and personal interactions manifest our efforts to cooperate and to mutually support one another in a Christ-like manner as members of God's family. We recognize and affirm the parents' role as primary educators of their children. We respect their choice of a Catholic education and accept the trust they have placed in the faculty and administration of the school.
